Maurice Sterne, born in Latvia in 1878. He moved to the United States in 1890 and immediately started to train at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League in New York City. He divided his time between Italy and the U.S. after 1914. Sterne also was an instructor at the California School of Fine Arts during 1935-1936. Sterne died in Mt. Kisko, New York, in 1957
